OPEN FARM SUNDAY  TODAY ! 10TH JUNE 2018 please see details below the Forest Adventure Information

Broom House Forest Adventure

The Forest Adventure is now open every weekend 10.30am-4pm.   Also open daily during Durham School half term and summer holidays There's a great new letter hunt for older children and for younger children the dragon is hiding in his treetop lair, can you find him?

Please note that one or 2 of the paths are sometimes a bit muddy.  For your protection please wear old boots/trainers and clothes with long sleeves and trousers rather than shorts/dresses. Any enquiries please ring 01913718382

Broom House offers Durham's most exciting action packed fun family day out. Follow the nature trails, attempt the woodland challenges...climb the towers, whizz down the slide, fly along the zip wire and dare to enter the tunnels.

There's something for all ages. Enter the forest, choose your path and use your instincts to explore the woodland. Test your skills on the oak tree walk - a higher level walkway with balance beams, tunnels and slide. Underneath is the oak tree challenge, how fast can can you get round our circuit of obstacles and challenges?

2018 Prices Admission £5.00 per person for everyone 2 and over.  Family Tickets £18.00 for 2 adults (parents/carers/grandparents) and their 2 children.  Please note children under 17 will not be allowed on the trail unattended.

Tickets are available from the Coffee Shop.  We don't take prebookings.  We do accept card payments

Pushchairs - we are often asked whether the Forest Adventure is suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs.  There is a special gate for wheeled vehicles to the left of the main entrance bridge.  Once inside, the main paths are fairly hard and covered with woodchip.  It all depends on the pushchair/wheelchair, but we do find that most pushchairs are easily wheeled around the wood, as are the more rugged, lighter wheelchairs.  Some paths and equipment are not accessible, but there is access to all the quiz stations and you can leave you pushchair in the wood (at your own risk) if that suits you.  Obviously after heavy rain/in the colder months there may be mud/puddles - do ring for an update

2018 Season Tickets are available, make fab presents  - great value and valid for all the dates that we are open in 2018 - so buy one as soon as you can! Early bird prices:  Family of 2 £30, Family of 3 £40, Family of 4 £50.00, Family of 5 £60

Please wear sturdy shoes such as trainers/walking boots and sensible outdoor clothing -  Long sleeves, long trousers and trainers are recommended as these will  help prevent prickles and scratches. Flip flops and similar shoes are not recommended, nor are shorts, dresses or vest tops.  For extra fun dress in your best woodland camouflage gear!

Grassy play area.  Refreshments and Light lunches available in our coffee shop.

PICNICS - We have a separate picnic field, this is accessed from the grassy field car park by the drive, it's large and grassy and handy for the car but a little way from the cafe and playfield.  Please bring picnic rugs/groundsheets/chairs for a real, traditional picnic as there are no tables/chairs here.  Please do not bring any of your own food and drinks to the  Coffee Shop, Playfield or Forest Adventure as these areas are for customers using the Coffee Shop facilities only.  We do offer takeaway hot drinks to take up to the picnic area but we do not have wet weather picnic provision - you can always use your car though!

Cloakroom & baby changing facilities on site.

Friendly dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Please note that our tickets are non-refundable.  If your circumstances change unexpectedly and you need to leave early, please ask to speak to a manager and we may be able to give you a voucher for a return visit on another date this year.

Broom House Farm is a non smoking area.  Please ask our staff to be shown where you can have a smoke

We offer a 100% Carer's Discount on production of a Durham carers card or similar photographic ID proof.  A free ticket for the carer when accompanying one full priced ticket holder.  May not be used with other special offers.

Please come along 11am-4pm, no need to book, £1 per vistor, all of which will go our charity this year, Zambezi Sunrise Trust. What colour are Aberdeen Angus Cattle? How many eggs does a hen lay a year? When does lamb become mutton? How do border collies round up sheep? Which pieces of machinery do we need for haymaking? Why do we plant hedges? Is our beef grass fed? What is organic farming? If you'd like to find out the answer to any of these questions then come along on 10th June.

Open Farm Sunday is a national event that we first took part in on a rainswept Sunday in 2007. If you have ever wondered about the story of beef or lamb from field to fork, or how we farm in the North East of England, then this event is for you!

  • Sheep shearing demonstration
  • Trailer Ride to see Aberdeen Angus cattle
  • Hens & Haymeadows walk - visit the hens, looking at traditional organic hay meadows
  • Working Sheep dog gathering & Lleyn sheep farm walk
  • Farmyard, combine harvester and haymaking machinery
  • Butchery demonstration in the Farm Shop
  • The Broom House Knitting group will be spinning wool
  • BBQ (please bring cash to save time if possible)
  • Durham Wildlife Charcoal

Keep an eye on our facebook event page for up to date information.
If you would like to come along please just turn up, wearing sensible warm clothing and sturdy shoes. It could be quiet, or it could be chaos....all aspects of life on the farm are unpredictable and weather dependent...that includes the arrival of the public!

You'll get the chance to visit parts of the farm that are normally inaccessible and to ask questions about production methods, organic farming and how machinery works. Open Farm Sunday is staffed by family, friends and volunteers....all activities and timings are approximate and subject to change depending on numbers and the weather!

If you would like to bring your own picnic, please bring a rugs etc and make yourselves at home in the picnic area in the overflow carpark. Dogs are welcome to come on the farm walks. Pushchairs are welcome to give it a go but the walks will be a bit cross country.

The Forest Adventure will be open - normal admission charges apply for this area.

"Just to say what a wonderful day that we have had today visiting your Farm. The Aventure Wood was excellent, I brought my 4 granddaughters aged from 3-14 and each one had a great time and cannot wait to come back.
