Fun, Food & Farming!

Please check up on the latest news and events via the Broom House Farm facebook page or our newsletter

The Forest Adventure is now closed for the winter.  Thanks to everyone that visited in 2019 -

Would you like to be a Forest Ranger here?  see the bottom of the page for job details!

Please note that some of the paths are sometimes muddy and that wooden bridges and play equipment can be extremely slippery when wet.  For your protection please wear old boots/trainers and clothes with long sleeves and trousers rather than shorts/dresses. Any enquiries please ring 01913718382

Broom House offers Durham's most exciting action packed fun family day out. Follow the nature trails, attempt the woodland challenges...climb the towers, whizz down the slide, fly along the zip wire and dare to enter the tunnels.

There's something for all ages. Enter the forest, choose your path and use your instincts to explore the woodland. Test your skills on the oak tree walk - a higher level walkway with balance beams, tunnels and slide. Underneath is the oak tree challenge, how fast can can you get round our circuit of obstacles and challenges?

2020 PRICES - Forest Adventure Admission £5.50 per person for everyone 2 and over.  Family Tickets £20.00 for 2 adults (parents/carers/grandparents) and their 2 children.  Children under 17 are not allowed on the trail unattended.

Tickets are available from the Coffee Shop.  We don't take pre-bookings except for large groups for example Cub scout packs, holiday clubs.  We do accept card payments

PUSHCHAIRS & WHEELCHAIRS  - we are often asked whether the Forest Adventure is suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs.  There is a special gate for wheeled vehicles to the left of the main entrance bridge.  Once inside, the main paths are fairly hard and covered with woodchip, but they are not tarmac/concrete.  It all depends on the pushchair/wheelchair, but we find that most pushchairs are easily wheeled around the wood, as are the more rugged, lighter wheelchairs.  Some paths and equipment are not accessible, but there is access to all the quiz stations and you can leave you pushchair in the wood (at your own risk) if that suits you.  Obviously after heavy rain/in the colder months there may be mud/puddles - do ring for an update

SEASON TICKETS -  2020 Season Tickets are available and valid for all the dates that we are open in 2020 - so buy one as soon as you can!  2019 Prices  will be held for early bird purchases - Family of 2 £30, family of 3 £45, family of 4 £60, family of 5 £75, family of 6 £90

Please wear sturdy shoes such as trainers/walking boots and sensible outdoor clothing -  LONG sleeves, LONG trousers and trainers are recommended as these will  help prevent prickles and scratches. Flip flops and similar shoes are NOT recommended, nor are shorts, dresses or vest tops.  For extra fun dress in your best woodland camouflage gear!

DOGS! Friendly dogs are welcome in the  Playfield and Forest Adventure but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Grassy play area.  Refreshments and Light lunches are available in our coffee shop.

PICNICS - We have a separate picnic field, this is accessed from the grassy field car park by the drive, it's large and grassy and handy for the car but a little way from the cafe and playfield.  Please bring picnic rugs/groundsheets/chairs for a real, traditional picnic as there are no tables/chairs here.  Please do not bring any of your own food and drinks to the  Coffee Shop, Playfield or Forest Adventure as these areas are for customers using the Coffee Shop facilities only.  We do offer takeaway hot drinks to take up to the picnic area but we do not have wet weather picnic provision - you can always use your car though!  Food and drink should not be taken to the Forest Adventure as we have no handwashing facilities in the forest.

Cloakroom & baby changing facilities on site.  There are extra loos for busy days in a separate block between the Coffee Shop and large field, just behind the party room

FARM ANIMALS  Broom House is a working farm and there are animals on view to the public at most times of the year eg: hens and piglets, ducks, turkeys, goats.  Sometimes the animals will be out in the fields but still great to look at and if you're lucky you may see the sheep dog in action during the course of the shepherds' working day.  There is no charge to view the animals but we request that you do not feed the animals and we do not offer animal petting.  We do not have any chicks to hold, rabbits or guinea pigs to stroke or lambs to feed but recommend Hall Hill Farm for such activities.  Please read our safety guidelines regarding hand washing and please note that pregnant ladies should not come into direct contact with pregnant sheep.

Parties!  Please see the separate web page

Please note that our tickets are non-refundable.  If your circumstances change unexpectedly and you need to leave early, please ask to speak to a manager and we may be able to give you a voucher for a return visit on another date this year.

Broom House Farm is a non smoking area.  Please ask our staff to be shown where you can have a smoke

We offer a 100% Carer's Discount on production of a Durham carers card or similar proof together with photographic ID.  Put simply we offer a free ticket for a carer when accompanying one full priced ticket holder.  May not be used with other special offers. Please note that we don't currently accept MAX cards however if you don't have a Durham Carer's card please do just bring along proof that you are a carer together with ID and we will make sure you get a free ticket.

Days out at farms are an enjoyable experience for many people. However, animals can carry infections that may be harmful to people, especially children and pregnant women.  Please wash hands with soap and water.  For more information about ways people can keep themselves healthy during farm visits, please visit this website
